Matthew Burks, DDS, MD
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon
Dr. Matthew Burks was born and raised in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and graduated from Lake Hamilton High School in 2004. He attended Baylor University, graduating Summa cum Laude in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and a minor in Biology. While in college, he was active in the Kappa Omega Tau Fraternity and inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. Dr. Burks then attended Texas A&M University Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, receiving his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and graduating third in his class in 2013. While in dental school, he was active in the Xi Psi Phi Fraternity, the American Association of Dental Research, and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Dental Society. Dr. Burks then entered the residency program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at UT Health San Antonio. As a part of his OMS residency training, he completed his Medical Degree in 2016 and his Internship in General Surgery in 2017, both from UT Health San Antonio.
His interest in OMS comes from the unique blend of dentistry and medicine as well as the unique challenges presented by the specialty. He is a member of the American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Texas Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the American College of Surgeons. His interests outside OMS include spending time with his wife, Valeria, and their two children and two dogs, SCUBA diving, reading, and being outdoors.
