Dr. Kirby Bunel has practiced Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the Texarkana area since 1993. He earned his DDS from Baylor College of Dentistry, Dallas, Texas in 1988. Dr. Bunel spent the next year as a Teaching Fellow in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Baylor. Then he moved to Houston to complete his Residency at The University of Texas Health Science Center at the Texas Medical Center from 1989 to 1993.

 

During his many years of private practice, Dr. Bunel has witnessed and participated in numerous advances to reconstruct the teeth, jaws, and facial structures. Most notably is the ability to replace lost teeth and the jaw tissues which support the teeth.

Dr. Bunel has consistently attended professional meetings and accumulated hundreds of hours of continuing education in order to remain current in the latest advances in Oral and Facial Surgery.

Dr. Bunel has maintained a leadership role with his involvement in various organizations, to include Diplomate, American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Fellow, American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is also a Fellow of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology. Additionally, Dr. Bunel is Past-President, First District of the Texas Dental Association, Past-President Texarkana Dental Society and Past-President of the Texas Component, American Dental Society of Anesthesiology. He has also served on the Board of the Texas Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons including serving as President.

Dr. Bunel is an active member of the community. He is a member of the Texarkana Chamber of Commerce and Leadership Texarkana. He was a voluntary provider to the Junior League’s Children’s Dental Clinic for many years. In addition, Dr. Bunel has supported the local Komen Texarkana Race for the Cure, both as a race participant and sponsor since the local event began in 1999. He has also participated in the TDA SMILES charity dental clinics on several occasions along with both Dr. James and Dr. Duke. Currently, he remains involved in the medical staff of Wadley Regional Medical Center and Christus St. Michael Health Care Center.

In August of 2013, Dr. Bunel was appointed to the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners by Governor Rick Perry.

Dr. Bunel is married and has two children.
